During the cross country fun run after school on Thursday, October 5, at IAR, 173 students competed from 27 homerooms in both seventh and eighth grades. There were six winners in each grade and three winners of each gender. I interviewed the seventh grade winner, Anna Weygang, and asked her two questions.

Q: Anna, how did you do so well?

A: Well, I practice a lot with my dad. I've been running for about two years now. I guess

since there were girls behind me, they really pushed me to do better. Also in the final

stretch, the girl in second place was beating me so that reminded me how turn on the jets and go.

Q: Define yourself as a cross-country person.

A: I mean I'm guessing I’m pretty athletic. During cross-country I came first twice in the

season. The girl who usually came in first, an eighth-grader named Kamy, I beat her one

time. I felt pretty good about that, but I also felt bad for beating her. Kamy helps me with my pacing because if I stay a good distance behind her, I can keep up with her speed.
