“Knowledge is like money. You collect it as long as you can and put it in your pocket because you never know when you are going to need to spend it.” - Ms. Becker.
Ms. Becker is a science teacher and team leader on Team D. She has been teaching at Irving A. Robbins for nineteen years and attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
Ms. Becker knew that she wanted to become a teacher even when she was young. She always liked teaching and practiced, so to speak, on her younger siblings. She even enjoyed teaching herself. She borrowed books from the library and attempted to learn new concepts. Once she or her sisters “mastered” the concept, she created quizzes and graded her sisters, which they reluctantly agreed to. When Ms. Becker went to college, she first graduated as an animal science major. However, she found that she liked learning the science more than actually working with the animals, and, since she had some teaching experience, she decided to become a science teacher.
Ms. Becker enjoys science because she likes learning about how things work and she finds the world to be fascinating. The more she learns about the world and how things work, living things in particular, she finds herself wanting to know more. Science is also a very logical subject, and Ms. Becker tends to be logical in the way she approaches things.
In addition to her love for science, Ms. Becker has a passion for the New York Yankees. She also likes to play golf and the piano. She coaches the school’s all-female volleyball team as well as the step team because she loves to play volleyball and dance .
Ms. Becker enjoys teaching and she enjoys interacting with her students. She hopes that, in the end, she manages to make a difference in at least some of her students’ lives. She hopes that they end up with pockets full of knowledge to use in the future.
